The Optomap Retinal Exam

With the Optomap our doctors are able to capture high-resolution, digital images of the retina without the side effects of pupil dilation. That means no blurry vision, light sensitivity, or inability to return to school or work after the exam.

By using this technology we are able to detect retinal vascular diseases caused by diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol, as well as other retinal issues including retinal tears and detachments. We can also identify patients with diseases of the optic nerve, such as glaucoma, and of the macula, like macular degeneration. Serial analysis of consecutive imaging allows us to closely monitor these conditions for progression or change.

Our doctors will review and discuss your eye images with you in the exam room at the time of your appointment. We have seen many patients develop ocular disease without and symptoms or immediate change in vision, so it is important to evaluate the health of your eyes annually.
